Contact Calls Program – A Friendly “Hello”

Volunteer West Island is aware of the fact that many people living alone are fragile and that contact with other people remains essential to break isolation and provide comfort. The bilingual telephone service, CONTACT, is available to all residents aged 55 and over, who feel isolated and who would appreciate talking and exchanging in a friendly voice three times a week.

In addition, if you do not answer when your CONTACT volunteer calls you and we have not been notified of your absence beforehand, a second call will be made within 15 minutes. If you do not answer the second call, a neighbor or family member, whose contact information you have given us, will come to your residence. If this person cannot reach you, a West Island CAB supervisor will be advised to intervene.

It is important to mention that all CONTACT volunteers have been subject to police verification and are therefore reliable.

Please note: CONTACT is NOT an emergency medical service. It does not replace 911.

If you are interested in receiving this service, or know someone who could benefit from it, please contact us at outreach@volunteerwestisland.org or (514) 457-5445 ext. 225.

VWI also offers a handyman service. To access this service, seniors must obtain a referral from the CLSC. This service will allow them to have help to carry out small jobs around the house. Little things that make all the difference!

Fees apply such as the mileage of the volunteer and the materials needed to do the work. Our volunteer can also be a reassuring presence when you discuss with a contractor or a repairer about a job to be done and the corresponding costs.

Contact your local CLSC to find out if you qualify for this service:

(514) 639-0650: CLSC Dorval-Lachine
